Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety was established in 1993, building on a retail history that stretches back more than 70 years. Today, Hip Pocket is a national network of 60+ locally owned stores across Australia.

That history matters because workwear and safety supply is not a category built overnight. Supplier relationships, buying power, systems, product knowledge and customer trust are built store by store, customer by customer, over decades.

Franchise Partners joining Hip Pocket today step into that foundation. Each store is independently owned and locally run, with the strength of a national network working behind it through supplier relationships, shared capability, business systems, marketing support and a brand customers already know.

Why us

About the Opportunity

Businesses across almost every industry need workwear and safety products to keep their people equipped and compliant.

Hip Pocket Franchise Partners operate a diversified business model that combines retail and business-to-business trade, creating opportunities across walk-in customers, long-term trade accounts and supporting services.

The business is built around Workwear, Footwear and PPE & Safety, supported by Uniforms and Branding, including embroidery, logo application and promotional products. This allows a Franchise Partner to support everything from an individual purchase to a fully branded uniform program for an entire workforce.

It is this combination that gives the model its strength. Hip Pocket brings product, branding, trade capability and customer service together as one connected system, making it easier for customers to get what they need and giving them more reasons to keep coming back.

Stores can also tailor their product mix to suit local demand, creating opportunities to build relationships across the industries and businesses within their own market.

FAQs

What qualities do you look for in a new Franchise Partner?

The strongest Franchise Partners bring drive, local knowledge and a real commitment to their customers.

We look for people who are willing to adopt the systems, get behind the brand, work collaboratively and bring their own experience to the table. A willingness to learn and actively build relationships within the local market is also important.

Do I need any qualifications or previous industry experience?

No specific qualifications or previous workwear and safety experience are required.

Previous business experience can be beneficial, regardless of the industry. Franchise Partners complete a structured induction and receive ongoing support from a dedicated Franchise Support Manager, with further development through supplier training, webinars, conferences and other opportunities across the network.

How much money will I need to start a Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety franchise?

The investment required will vary depending on the location, size and condition of the premises.

As a guide, the total investment is generally around $350,000 to $500,000, including the franchise fee, stock, fit-out, working capital and other establishment costs.

If both parties decide to progress the opportunity, detailed forecasts will be prepared based on the proposed location and individual circumstances.

Is all stock purchased through Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety?

No. Hip Pocket provides Franchise Partners with access to supplier relationships, negotiated pricing and trading terms across a broad range of workwear and safety brands.

The product mix can be tailored to suit local demand, giving Franchise Partners the flexibility to stay relevant to the industries, businesses and workers in their market.

This means stores do not need to carry exactly the same range. The mix can reflect the needs of the local customer base while benefiting from the buying strength and supplier relationships of the wider network.

Can I own multiple stores?

Yes. The Hip Pocket model provides the opportunity for Franchise Partners to expand into additional stores and territories as their business develops.

How long is the induction program?

The induction program runs over two weeks and includes hands-on training within an operational Hip Pocket store.

A dedicated training manager takes Franchise Partners through store workflows, systems and day-to-day operations, with additional time spent with in-store specialists.

The implementation team also assists with the set-up of the new store and provides on-the-ground support during the opening period.

Training continues beyond opening through support from a dedicated Franchise Support Manager, supplier training, webinars, conferences and other development opportunities across the network.

How many days per week does the business operate?

Hip Pocket does not prescribe the same trading hours for every store.

Most stores operate Monday to Friday and a half day on Saturday. Stores in higher retail traffic locations may choose to trade seven days a week, depending on their market and local demand.
