Island Ride began as Island Bus, a project to provide public bus transport on Russell Island. Due to the island’s unique geography, dispersed population and changing demographics, the concept organically evolved into a more flexible, demand-responsive rideshare transportation service, better suited to the community’s needs and local travel patterns. The current setup is also very strong supported by the community, which facilitated a smooth transition from the original bus concept with dedicated routes to a door-to-door communal commute.
