Mostly Southwest Sydney (e.g. Glenfield - Minto)
We have students and tutors all around Sydney, but most are in Southwestern Sydney (Glenfield, Macquarie Fields, Ingleburn, Minto, Airds etc).
Students usually prefer a tutor to travel to their home, some online; others opt for local libraries.
Good bones and infrastructure, with a consistent hiring system, strong word of mouth connections, loyal customer base and experienced tutors. Entire system can be run remotely without meeting staff or clients. Has strong potential for scaling, paid advertisement, resource creation and automation, for example through AI or otherwise.
No knowledge of the education system required. The business has its own resources and staff, who also come with their own teaching material; you only need to connect new prospective leads with existing tutors, and then ocassionally hire new tutors.
Half an hour of bookkeeping during middle and end of the week, with 15 minutes every 2-3 days to set up new students.
Currently around 10 tutors active with many others on file from previous hires.
Built this business myself shortly after graduating from high school. I am entering full-time work as a doctor very soon and hence I do not have the desire to scale. While I recognise there is great potential, I am now spending my time upskilling myself in research and procedural skills.
I am looking for a lean sale to support myself for the rest of my student life. Furthermore, I do not wish to see my tutors to lose their jobs nor the families we serve to lose their tutoring support.
Completely remotely operated. Tutors hired through Indeed, with already built application forms, training points and a template for a tutor profile. There are existing resources to support tutors and also to sell as standalone products to clients.
Tutors offer their preferred subjects, grades and mode of lesson (e.g. online or in-person, including which suburbs) and then offer hourly rates for prospective students. This rate has an added $10-15/hour (or 30% of the tutor's rate, whichever is higher) which is billed to the client and provides the profit to the business.
Clients are mainly parents of students in primary and high school.
This business is unique in the sense that it offers individualised tutoring with a diverse range of options, e.g. in tutoring experience and price (for example, clients can pick from a relevantly new tutor with a low rate to an experienced teacher with a high rate).
This business has great bones and infrastructure. The leads list alone, complete with information such as phone numbers, is of great value. Most of the current business is through word-of-mouth, hence there is great unexplored potential from paid online advertisement.
I started unofficially several years ago shortly after finishing high school when I was receiving too many students to tutor and I had friends who were looking for students. During that time, I have grown the business to be very efficient, with multiple roles that span from hiring tutors to weekly bookkeeping and allow great automation. This business has always been in the green, with official tax returns and books to back it, and has great potential to be scaled and/or automated, such as through AI. We have great reviews from over the years.
