The Latz Report Yearbook is a B2B trade directory that is tightly focused upon serving the Australian bicycle industry. It's been strongly profitable every year since its launch in 1996.
Although it is currently based in Wollongong, NSW this business could be relocated to anywhere in Australia. It can easily be run from a home office.
Could expand into additional sectors of the bicycle industry
No specific skills required by the owner as this business makes ample profit to hire all the skills and labour needed to publish the Yearbook each year and still leave a good margin for the owner, even if they do little hands on work.
Or, depending upon their skillset the owner could choose to do most of the tasks and keep more of the income.
Overall this business needs the services of a graphic artist, a sales person and an admin person. P
Just over 300 hours per year ie 6 hrs per week, but most of this work is done within a four month period each year.
Work from anywhere - home office, shared space.
Total of only 300 hours per year of work. This is a part time business that might suit someone looking for extra income or a simple, profitable "bolt on" to an existing trade publisher
After founding this business back in 1996, the owner is about to turn 65 years old and ready to retire.
Please note: Available upon request I have a much better, more detailed discription that Seek's character limit does not fit.
The best type of business is a monopoly. The Latz Report Yearbook is the only trade media that exists to serve the Australian bicycle industry. That gives its owner the opportunity to set prices and have no competition or discounting pressure. Every advertisement is sold at rates card price – no discounts.
It’s a much-loved institution for its core target audience - bicycle shop owners, workshop managers and buyers throughout Australia. Many times, over the years, including as recently as today, we hear our customers referring to the Yearbook as “the bible”.
The Yearbook’s core market exceeds $2 billion in turnover per year.
The bike industry has also been resilient through economic disruptions and most importantly from the Yearbook’s use case perspective, the products are incredibly complex and industry ownership is diverse.
1,121 retailers listed on our Yearbook database
220 wholesalers - the potential advertisers
Bicycles were already complex when we launched the Yearbook in 1996. There were product categories for Road, BMX, Mountain, Commuter etc.
But since then, whole new categories have entered the market that are now huge businesses in their own right. These include e-bikes, gravel bikes, cargo bikes, e-scooters and share bikes to name a few. Not to mention a bewildering array of new parts and accessories.
These new product categories have been a game changer for the bicycle industry, especially all things related to electrification.
Economic Resilience
Cycling is not a fad. The Australian bicycle industry is already over 160 years old.
Regardless of which “economic crisis” has come along over the past 30 years since we started publishing the Yearbook, the Australian bicycle industry has powered through with a relatively stable number of wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
Low Ownership Turnover
Most owners and key staff of Australian bicycle industry companies are passionate about cycling and tend to stay in the industry for a very long time, quite often for their entire working lives.
This is a great feature for the Yearbook in terms of familiarity, goodwill and repeat business. Many of our customers have taken the same advertising positions for 10, even 20 or more consecutive years.
Our print and online versions are identical apart from the website and email addresses of advertisers being hyperlinked in the online version – so that every advertiser is only one click away.
