Have been here for 28 years. My husband has not been well for 22 years. Now I have some health issues and would like to retire. I love what we have built, however things change in our lives and it is now time to enjoy the next chapter of our lives.
About the Business
We purchased the Oakey Indoor Sports Centre over 28 years ago. Have taken it from just indoor sports to now include childcare. Outside School Hours Care has been operating 17years & recently coverted the 4 squash courts to rooms for the Long Day Care. That was done 4 years ago so it's still very new.
We added huge covered decks for the day care & have a massive outdoor playground with purpose built sand pit & bike track. With more land available if wanting to extend. The rooms have lots of natural light opening onto the decks. The indoor sports side is licensed for child care, so if the weather is not nice the children can still do activities on the sports side. The beach volleyball court makes a great indoor sand pit and we also have jumping castles. The night time sports we can offer indoor cricket, indoor netball, beach volleyball, soccer & dodgeball. We don't play sports during school holidays however that could change.
The centre has half an acre under roof & approximately 1,000 sqmts licensed fenced playground area for the child care. There is spare land which currently has a BMX track on it that the children use as an excursion. This land could be a future development - would require Council approval.
I no longer have the time or energy to put into the business as my husband hasn't been well for 21 years. I now have some health issues and have been told to slow down. I love what we have created however it is time for someone else to take over.
Covid was a horrible time, however we are seeing improvement. (we have only had 1 lockdown for sport). We have great staff, many are long term. There is significant upside value remaining with this uniquire asset. We have been through the tough period of establishing the Long Day Care and it is time to see the rewards.
There is so much more potential for both businesses. There is also the opportunity to have weekend activities. The centre is a great place for parties. I hire the centre out on an hourly basis. I was doing parties with the jumping castles with party food etc but now just do the hire. I haven't been advertising, it is just word of mouth & people from previous parties. This is certainly something that could be utilised more. Was popular. We also held Under Age Rages on a Saturday night every fortnight.
There is a lot of employment opportunities in the area. That is one of the reason we purchased in Oakey all those years ago. We could get a Freehold business for the same price as a leasehold in bigger cities.
