Not long after Sir Racha products established good traction in the marketplace, demand for the manufacturing services (the core business of the current owners) underwent significant growth with the addition of a number of new major clients. In addition to that, a team member who had been tasked with driving the Sir Racha brand left the business to move overseas. The current owners had to make a decision to consolidate their time and energy on their core business activity.
Sir Racha is a brand that was developed by The Other Chef Makers & Providores, who are the current owners. The owners core business is manufacturing - high quality artisan condiments, under their own brand "The Other Chef" as well as for a growing number of contract clients.
The Sir Racha brand was developed as a side project, when the current owners saw an opportunity, or gap, in the hot sauce market. They noticed that consumers tend to think that "sriracha" is a brand of hot sauce, not realising that it is simply a style of hot sauce. On researching the market, they found that the majority of sriracha sauces available in Australia are imported - and they tend to be full of sugar and artificial ingredients.
Around the same time, the worlds biggest selling brand of sriracha (which is made in the USA and has a rooster on the label) dissappeared from supermarket shelves due to a drought-induced shortage of chillies available out of the US and Mexico. That shortage has continued.
The owners thought - why not create an Australian made sriracha hot sauce, using Australian ingredients, without all the artificial ingredients found in the imported varieties? And why not make a cheeky play on the name (of the style - sriracha) and create "Sir Racha".
The brand is light-hearted and fun to market, the response from consumers at events is enthusiastic and encouraging. It's a great brand, a great product, and offers the new owner a great mix of flexible work hours, opportunity to travel, and exciting growth potential.
