Why us

Ovenu was founded in 1994 by Rik Hellewell, after he discovered the existence of a mobile BBQ cleaning service in New Zealand.

Expanding the business beyond the simple oil drum filled with washing powder, Rik chose the name Ovenu to signify that his process would make your ovens look like new!

The real breakthrough with the company came when we began to think about the products themselves. After reading the warnings on many kitchen cleaning products, he realised that most oven cleaners on the market contained caustic substances which would damage parts of the oven over time.

By talking to some friends in the carpet and upholstery cleaning business, Rik was able to put together environmentally-friendly products which contained no caustic soda or any other abrasive chemicals. Then it was just a matter of practice and getting to know the ovens.

Ovenu became a franchised system in 1994 but remains under the control of Rik Hellewell as Managing Director. He has made sure that all products fall within health and safety legislation and recycling requirements.

The Ovenu oven cleaning franchise made a move over to Australia in 2005.

In Australia we now have 30 franchisees operating 34 Ovenu vans, but given the size of the country we are always looking for more! Many of our Franchisees have been with us for well over 10 years and have built very profitable and successful businesses.

When you join the Ovenu franchise you get the best of both worlds: the ability to work for yourself, setting your own hours, but with the support of a tried-and-tested system giving you the best start up! 

Getting started with the Ovenu system couldn't be easier!

  1. Download our Franchise Package, an easy to read document that comprehensively details our company and how we work.
  2. Visit us for one of our Discovery Days, a no-obligation way to see how we really work.
  3. Join us for a two week training course with a Training Manager or state director, during which you'll learn all the techniques and business management you need.
  4. Buy a white van, which we'll then customise with high-quality signage. You can use this van even on your days off, for whatever purpose - that's why we leave the choice of van up to you.
  5. We provide you with all the tools and equipment you need to get started straight away, as well as a territory to operate within.
  6. We'll set you up with your own local Ovenu page, optimised by internet marketing experts, and run a Google ads campaign for you. You're free to set up your own social media accounts as well!
  7. You'll get an account on our Ovenu Franchisee forum, a great learning and socialising resource.
  8. Start your tailored Launch Campaign which will make sure you don't have too much work in one go. Then simply take on however much work you feel up to doing!
