Bank of Queensland (BOQ) is one of Australia's leading regional banks, with branches located in every State and Territory across Australia.

We're also among the few still not owned by one of the big banks. We're always looking for new franchisees to take on board franchising opportunities in their local communities.

BOQ has been a provider of banking and other financial services since 1874. The Bank appointed its first “Private Agent” as an owner and operator of a Bank branch over 25 years ago. As at 22nd August 2017 the Bank has 108 Franchise branches and 73 corporate branches, as well as 9 Service and Transaction centres throughout Australia. The Bank also has a number of Business Banking, Equipment Finance and Specialist finance centres throughout Australia.

We've outlined below some of the things we're looking for in our BOQ franchisees.

  • Recent experience in running a retail bank branch or team and/or a Business Banking portfolio of clients in the Australian Banking system with a proven sales track record in:
    - Retail Home Loan Lending
    - Business Loan Lending
    - Equipment Finance Lending
    - Collateral product sales (e.g. accounts, insurances, credit cards etc.) 
  • Proven business acumen / experience in running a business area/team of people
  • Business development and networking
  • People leadership, training and sales coaching
  • A desire to run your own full service banking branch and to be an active part of your local community

Below is our pathway to franchising at BOQ. Our franchise managers will walk you through every step of the way, ensuring you are fully equipped with the support and tools you need to run your own BOQ franchise.

1. Phone assessment
We will contact you to ensure that you have all the necessary information. We will also undertake a brief assessment over the phone, to make sure you have the right skills and experience to become a BOQ franchisee. Check out franchisee criteria to determine your eligibility to become a BOQ franchisee.

2. Face-to-face meeting
This will take place at one of our offices depending on where you are located. At this meeting you can ask as many questions as you like about our unique franchise model and we will also ask you questions about your career aspirations, skills and experience.

3. Skills and background review
This review is designed to give us some guidance on your suitability towards running your own franchise business.

4. Preparation of business plan & cashflow analysis
We will then ask you to present us with a business plan of what you propose to do with the particular site. This will help us identify what additional information you may need from us and, vice versa.

5. Meet current franchisees
We strongly encourage you to meet with current BOQ franchisees so that you can find out from them what being a part of the BOQ family is all about.

6. Meet with senior management
This is an opportunity to meet with some of BOQ's senior management team to find out more about the strategic direction of BOQ and see for yourself how passionate they are about our model and brand.

7. Offer and appointment
If you meet BOQ's criteria to become a franchisee, we may present you with an offer outlining the terms of the agreement. If you then accept our offer, your appointment will be confirmed.

8. Induction & commencement of training
The last step, as a BOQ franchisee you will undergo training on our systems, policies and procedures as well as attending a formal induction program.

Yes. However, it is a requirement that each business partner be fully accredited by BOQ. The majority shareholder of the business needs to have a successful background in the Australian banking industry. 

Do I have to have previous experience in running my own business?
To become a BOQ franchisee, you will have management and leadership experience in the Australian banking industry. In addition, experience in running your own business would be beneficial.

Do I have to work in the branch?
Yes BOQ's model is all about building relationships with our customers, so we encourage our franchisees to be the "face" of their branch and develop and maintain the relationship with their customers and their local community.

Can I buy multiple branches?
From time to time BOQ will consider multiple branch ownership.
