Potential

The gym has a solid client-base and regular classes, providing a good foundation for future growth. Potential for building the business further would include direct-debit/ lock-in contracts, morning/ daytime classes, kids classes, expanding independent contractors/ hiring out the premises, as well as building the social media profile of the gym (currently operates with only website and Facebook). The gym could also be expanded to include Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai etc, - the gym has padded flooring which is ideal for MMA/ grappling.

About the Business

BOXING GYM PROFILE:
• Boxing and fitness classes
• Strength and conditioning training
• Personal training sessions - 1:1 or small group
• Custom group sessions - e.g. schools (physical education), sporting clubs (pre-season)
• NDIS-funded training for people with special needs
• Independent contractors run personal training/ classes out of the gym (hire of premises)

CLIENTS AND COMMUNITY:
• Clients of all ages (8yrs old upwards) and abilities
• Individuals and families
• Competitors - amateur and professional
• Boxing class - mostly teens/ young adults (also older adults), average 20 people per class
• Fitness class - mostly adults (also some teens), average 10-15 per class
• Personal Training - wide range of individuals training for different purposes (fitness, strength/ conditioning, self-defence, learning to box, training for entry to police/ fire brigade/ military), average 5-6 PTs per day
• The gym has a good community who are very involved in the day-to-day operations of the club. It has a family-friendly atmosphere and several members volunteer their time to help run classes/ support new members etc. People often pop into the gym during the day to have a cup of coffee and a chat, and many members socialise with eachother outside the gym. We have an annual Christmas function that is well attended, and will occasionally run events for members (e.g. BBQ's, screening pay-per-view fights etc).

BUSINESS PROFILE:
• The gym has a good reputation and operates mainly through word-of-mouth, web-searches and walk-ins. There has been minimal advertising in the past (community notice board flyer's, Groupon deals).
• Members sign a membership agreement when starting at the gym. Classes/ personal training sessions tend to be bought in bulk (10-session cards), but can also be purchased individually. There is no direct-debit/ lock-in membership in place.
• The social media profile of the gym is small (Facebook only), with lots of growth potential in this area.
• The business has operated solidly since 2014, even through COVID restrictions. It has always been able to cover monthly expenses, and deliver a monthly profit.

PLEASE NOTE: The current name of the gym (The Agoge Boxing Gym) is not included in the sale. However, the previous name and branding (Gloveworkx) can be included if desired.

History

The gym was established in 2010, as Gloveworkx Boxing for Fitness Gym. The current owner purchased the business in 2014, building it up to a full time gym by 2016, and changing the name to The Agoge Boxing Gym in 2019. The gym has a good history of amateur and professional fighters, and has featured on large televised fight cards. The premises have also been used to film music videos, promotional videos and television series due to the authentic feel of the gym.
