Vast Founder & Director Ross Clayton opened the first Vast showroom in Coffs Harbour in 1999 & it was an instant success. Customers loved it so much that several of those very customers became Vast franchisees. Over the next 15 years these new customers/franchisees began to open their own stores throughout Australia.

The key ingredients? The furniture had soul & the franchisees were passionate about customer experiences!

Since then Vast has opened stores in over 30 locations across Australia & New Zealand, & still sticks vigorously to its original four rules:

  1. No bland furniture ever!
  2. Use natural & recycled materials!
  3. Hand made & hand finished!
  4. Have fun!

Vast creates value for its customers by being a direct import retailer shipping container loads of furniture directly from the factories to our showrooms ensuring that our exclusive goods land at the best possible price.

Traditionally this direct ship model has meant that each showroom requires a large warehouse to unload and store this stock. Also given that the “Vast look” is made up of several different suppliers from different countries, with differing lead times, the warehouse requirement has always been a significant expense for past franchisees.

Our response to this warehousing issue was to create an “EPIC” solution.

EPIC is an “Easy Pull Inventory Chain” that allows franchisees to only order in product as it sells with the need for only a minimal local stock holding. By partnering with a local logistics provider, Vast franchisees can do away with their warehouse and all its associated costs!

This leaner business model also gives franchisees shorter lead times & less overall capital requirement in holding stock all whilst simultaneously having access to larger quantities of core range stock.

Traditionally the retail furniture industry has been a low-tech affair, traditionally entrenched in the time old ways of sales. However, this presented a great opportunity for those willing to invest in technology & change the game forever...that’s us by the way.

Here at Vast we have created a custom in-store app that transforms any Customer Advisor into an encyclopedia of Vast knowledge. This helps in giving the customer any information they need, along with doing away with the need for customers to take photos of products on their phone & write notes on paper. Our app emails the customer the products they see on the floor through a high-quality digital catalogue allowing them to go home & make an informed choice.

We realise that to be relevant in today’s digital world, adapting to new technology is a must and we consider ourselves pioneers in this exciting new bricks & clicks arena!

  2. Our Vast Franchise Manager will give you a call to discuss your preferred location & your interest in becoming a Franchisee. We will then set up a time to meet face to face at your closest capital city store.

  3. If successful to the next stage, you’ll proceed to an application which involves:
    - Personality profile testing.
    - Interviews with the Directors at Vast HQ on the Gold Coast.
    - Completion of a comprehensive franchise application form. The application form will help identify your compatibility with retailing by assessing your business acumen & lifestyle requirements then compare these to the cultural & business requirements of Vast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the setup fees and costs?
There are many variables when opening a new Vast showroom, such as store size & location. To give you an idea it would be somewhere between $350,000 to $500,000 though we would prefer to discuss each opportunity on a case-by-case basis. Note the majority of this capital is spent on stock.

Do I need retail experience?
It’s definitely not a necessity but it certainly helps. Experience in high ticket items such as jewellery, cars, technology or travel is ideal, however, we have proven sales training methods which we will provide to you. We need smart, switched on people who are business minded.

Am I required to work in the store?
The most successful Vast showrooms are the ones where the franchisee is actively involved in the day to day running of the showroom. We encourage that every new franchisee would be heavily involved in the first 6-12 months of ownership however for the right applicant a showroom run with a high-quality Manager is also an option meaning a new franchisee would not need to be in store daily.

How much can I expect to earn?
Earnings are based on many factors including the size, location & local conditions of a showroom. Profitability is also affected by the attitude of each franchisee, their work ethic & their commitment to the business. To achieve financial success, franchisees should be prepared to work hard & have a positive attitude.
