When you choose to become a Jim’s Fencing franchisee you will receive comprehensive training that is designed to instil in you the Jim’s values of integrity, quality and first-rate customer service.
At first you will receive a business induction week at the Jim’s Group head office, with flights, airport transfers, accommodation and meals included. You will learn about administration, job allocation, customer service, complaint handling and general office procedures.
You will then complete an intensive 8-week training program covering on-site training in the techniques of building fences. At this stage you will start receiving 3-months of bookkeeping assistance and additional training on quoting and sales. By week 5, you will be allowed to start picking leads to develop your business, and during the entire training period you will receive a wage of $1000 per week. This highly successful training program has been rated 8/10 in conducted surveys.
Ongoing training will also be offered, as you work in your business, so that you can learn about new advances in technology and new products that appear on the market. We also run an annual conference which includes team building activities, product demonstrations, and practical training to help you improve your business.
What sort of hours will I work and do I need to work weekends?
Jim’s Fencing gives you the opportunity to structure a work schedule that suits you. You decide if you want to work on the weekend and if so, until what time.
Franchisees can specify start and finish times for every day if you choose (or set a default), so it is no issue at all if you want to be involved in family time during the day, such as school pickup or excursions.
Can I do work for friends, family and other referrals I find myself?
Absolutely, and we encourage you to activity build you referral base as your become more experienced, as this lowers your monthly fees (we are a user-pays system) as well as increasing the resale value of your business. You are not required to pay any lead fees for self-sourced jobs.
Who can I ask for help?
At Jim’s Fencing we have a unique support system. You will often have 2 or 3 trainers who you have spent time with during your 8 weeks paid training, who you can ask for technical help or catch up with to see a new style of fencing installed. Your franchisor is always ready to lend a helping hand both with practical issues and with business information and support. You can also discuss any concerns with fellow franchisees. It is to everyone’s benefit that the brand is kept to a high standard so everyone works together.
How much will I make?
Weekly work availability guarantee gives you at least $1,500 worth of work, however your income will be a direct result of how much time and effort you choose to put in. Part of the set up process includes putting together a business plan and we will help you reach your ideal income as quickly as possible.
Do I need prior experience to be successful in this business?
Not necessarily, though you do need to enjoy working outdoors and with tools. Many of our franchisees have management or shift work backgrounds but enjoy working at home. Jim’s Fencing has developed tried and tested systems over the years that help ensure that dedicated franchisees succeed regardless of prior vocation.
Is Finance available?
Most franchisees finance their way into their new business. If you require help with financing please contact us for details of one of the brokers we use who are familiar with the Jim’s system and work directly with banks who have ‘pre-approved’ our business model for finance.
Can I easily sell my business?
Yes. The system put in place by Jim’s Fencing works to make our franchises sought after businesses, and if you have built a referral base such as builders or real estates your business can be worth significantly more than a new one. We love to see successful franchisees who are ready to move onto something else be handsomely rewarded for the efforts.
What is involved in the 8 weeks training program?
The next 8 weeks is on the job training on the various aspects of the fencing business. This field-based training is meant to give you both theory and practice of successfully running a franchise, including safe use of tools, OH&S, customer service and managing your diary effectively. To aid you in being able to be fully dedicated to the training, we offer accommodation close by as well as a payment of $1,000 each week.
What other training is there?
All franchisees attend Jim’s Group business training at the head office in Melbourne, which culminates in you being awarded a Certificate IV in Business. The training gives you an overview of how to run a successful trades business as well as the Jim’s culture and ways to build your own referrals. This is supplemented by further in-office Jim’s Fencing training on our online quoting, the Jim’s Online software for managing clients and work hours and how to best work with your diary. You are then provided with Bookkeeping support for at least 3 months as well as weekly calls from your franchisor. Regular training takes place at bi-monthly franchisee meetings, field days to see new fencing materials and services such as automatic gates, and an annual Franchise Conference which is a chance to catch up with our entire group, enjoy a family holiday and get reinspired about the next year ahead.
