Est 2007 -run by husband and wife team. Imports raw materials and manufactures belts straps from a home shed. Sells on-line as well as major shows and events in Qld and Nsw.

South East Queensland
We work larger events. There are many events that could be added to the list. Demand is enormous with a high number of repeat customers. We have never advertised or used social media so this would increase business. There is also opportunity to supply retail shops and supply the corporate market with logo belts. There are also many smaller markets which could easily be done.
Belts are made on site in front of the customers at the shows. This process can be taught and is relatively simple. Finished work belts are also made in the shed using machinery and we can produce hundreds in a day. All the supply chain has been set up for many years and we have all the contacts overseas where the buckles are manufactured and the leather is produced. Importing knowledge like customs clearance is all set up and can be passed on. A car licence is required and experience towing a large trailer would be an advantage.
Hours are flexible. Most events are only 3 days. Rest of the time is making straps in the shed, or travelling to events.
There are no leases or fixed overheads. Exhibiting costs at events are paid in advance. We have long term sitepositions
Business is run by husband and wife team. We both help in the shed and at shows 1 makes the belts and the other serves the customers.
We have been doing The Belt Man for 18 years and it is time to slow down and retire. I am in my mid 60's and would like to take it easy on our farm.
What is unique about The Belt Man is that we make the belts on site in front of the customers while they wait. Other suppliers bring along finished belts but they are not as popular. All of our buckles, fitting and leather is unique to us and no one else has the same. We use good quality materials and we are confident thst the belts will last for years. Some customers come back after 15 years plus - they have worn the belt for 15 years and it is still good. We buy the leather and buckles in good quantities so our cost of raw materials is low ... and we keep our prices reasonable. Our client base varies depending on where the show is. City customers like different leathers and buckle styles to Country people. We know what to take to different events.
Everyone needs a belt so the market is large. People are sick of cheap inported belts that split and fall apart. Our customer base is strongly country based - the customers are nice to deal with and they appreciate quality.
With this business there is quite a bit of travel. We might go away on a circuit for a few weeks doing 3-4 shows. Each show is usually only a few days so there is plenty of free time to see Australia. It is a fun combination of work and travel while earning money.
We have seen a lot of Australia over the past 18 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The purpose built trailer is wonderful. We can be set up in a few hours much to the discust of other exhibitors who can spend days setting up and packing up. The trailer offers a professional image and can carry enough stock for several shows.
For years we towed the trailer with a regular 4WD ute, then a land cruiser. Now we use a small Iveco truck with a Palermino camper on the back. THis is a good combination saving costs on motels etc. You can sleep in the trailer and you can stay on site a many shows.
So a buyser would need a 4WD with a towing rating of 3.5 tonnes for the trailer.
The truck and Palomino camper are not included in the price but these can be negotiated separately if interested.

The belt Man started at Beef Week in Rockhampton. I was there promoting leathercraft and someone asked me to show them how to make a belt. I made one and they asked if they could buy it ... and the rest is history!
Over the years we have sold many thousands of belts and every year the demand gets stronger. Even when times in the economy are tough people can still afford a $40 to $50 leather belt, it is a bit likea personal treat.
